Research says you'll be pleasantly surprised.

And it's an herb!

So all you have to do is eat it, or drink it...

You don't have to inject it.


How using stevia to control blood sugar works:

Stevia leaves, when ingested, and then digested, are natural glucose regulators.

Stevia leaves help to nourish and balance the pancreas (the source of insulin activity), which, in turn, stabilizes blood sugar levels.

Using extracts of whole leaf stevia to control blood sugar has been documented in various studies. There is scientific data supporting the claims that stevia works.

The difficulty with getting our hands on the scientific data is that researchers are hesitant to document too "loudly" the results of testing stevia to control blood sugar, for fear of reprocussions from the AMA (American Medical Association) or the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

The AMA would most likely come down hard on an MD who promotes the use of an herbal preparation such as using stevia to control blood sugar.

Most doctors don't want to risk having their license revoked, or getting written up in a publication like "Quackwatch", so... no matter what encouraging results people may be seeing "behind the scenes," we won't be reading about it any time soon in the newspapers or other major media outlets.

Also, since stevia is not listed on the FDA's G.R.A.S. (Generally Regarded As Safe) foods list, the results of such studies, no matter how positive, will be kept quiet.

By the way, it's not due to stevia being unsafe in any way, it's about big business influences - the sugar and artificial sweetner industries would not be in good shape if stevia became readily available as a food.

Even though trials with people suffering from diabetes and hypoglycemia show dramatic positive results, usually within a short amount of time, We simply won't find the results in mainstream media.

What's a short amount of time when talking about these dramatic results? A person experiencing hyperclycemia (elevated blood sugar) can see a marked reduction of blood glucose levels within minutes of taking whole leaf stevia extract. A person with diabetes, after a few days of taking whole leaf stevia extract, can show a reduction in blood glucose levels.

If someone you know suffers from hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), they will find a good friend in whole leaf stevia products. Stevia helps control blood sugar levels whether the problem is too much blood sugar, or too little.

"What's the best way to take stevia to control blood sugar?"

Talk to a Doctor of Naturopathy when you're ready to try stevia to control blood sugar.

Thankfully, naturopathic physicians can recommend stevia, and can help you find a source of whole leaf concentrate, without worrying about reprocussions with the AMA. You can work with a naturopathic physician to determine the proper dose for your body. One person may do well with 20 drops of liquid 3 times a day, others may only need 5 drops.

I'm not a doctor, but from my research and personal experience I'd recommend using whole leaf stevia concentrate. Of course, stevia leaves in their natural form (added to foods or brewed as a tea) will do some good too...

What's the difference? Simply put, the benefits of stevia on blood glucose levels are multiplied by taking stevia in a concentrated doseage.

You can find whole leaf stevia concentrate in two forms:

1) tablet form, stevia concentrate compressed with oat bran into little "pills", which are easy to carry around in your pocket or purse.

or,

2) liquid form, a dark green, thick liquid prepared from boiling down the leaves at very high temperatures, which can be stirred into water, lemonade, tea or even coffee.

These two stevia preparations are different than other stevia "flavorings" normally found in the health section of your local natural market. In fact, you may need to seek out an herbalist or doctor of naturopathy to find a source.

Another interesting view of using stevia to control blood sugar levels...

Usually, when people begin using stevia (in any form), their craving for sugar and sweet foods diminishes. It's been documented plenty of times, even with my own clients.

That's just an added bonus, isn't it! Not only does stevia help stabilize blood sugar fluctuations, it gives us an edge toward healthier eating habits.
