Tea Time...

My brother and I frequently talk on the phone in the mornings, and it's usually while we're both sipping our morning yerba tea. We both order our yerba mate from Guayaki, in bulk, 5 lbs at a time. I'm into buying in bulk, as our long-time readers know.

Recently he was joking about how he and his wife drink yerba mate every day, except for the occasional morning when they decide to have some coffee instead. After a few sips of coffee they're already looking forward to tomorrow morning's pot of yerba mate ;-)

It's the same with me! My husband loves coffee, so we usually have both coffee and yerba mate brewing every morning. Occasionally the coffee smells so good that I will have a cup, and, like my brother describes, after a few sips, even though it's tasty, I'm usually wishing I'd had yerba mate instead.

Here's how I make it:

I boil about 5-6 cups of water, add about 2 teaspoons of loose leaf yerba mate and let it steep for a few minutes. Then I strain it through a fine mesh strainer, pour some into a big mug, and put the rest into a thermos to enjoy throughout the morning.

It just makes you feel so good, that's the best way to describe it.
