Apple Cider Vinegar For Heartburn

Taking raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar for heartburn may sound counter-intuitive, but for some people it really works!

For people who have too little stomach acid, or others who tend toward overly alkaline, taking apple cider vinegar can help achieve a more ideal level, which in turn helps digestion, which in turn can prevent and even relieve heartburn!

How Does Apple Cider Vinegar for Heartburn Work?

For people with low levels of stomach acid which can lead to heartburn:

Mix 1 -2 tablespoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a small glass of water and sip it along with your meal. Alternatively, sip the mixture a few minutes before eating your meal, to stimulate the production of digestive juices.

Apple cider vinegar for heartburn works for a lot of people to alleviate uncomfortable burning in the stomach and acid reflux symptoms before they start, but you can also take it if you are already having the symptoms. For example, if you're a low level stomach acid type, and you wake up in the night with "acid reflux", try sipping 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar mixed with ¼ cup of water. You should start to feel better very quickly.

Remember that it’s best to remain in an upright position after eating. If you do lie down shortly after a meal, it's best to lay on your left side, because of the way the stomach and its valves are situated in the body. Laying on your left side will help prevent food from escaping out of the stomach back into the esophagus.

Thankfully, many doctors know of the relief that apple cider vinegar provides for heartburn and acid reflux, and consequently recommend it to their patients before prescribing pharmaceutical medications (which cover up the symptoms without addressing the cause).

Using raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar is more than just a wives-tale or folk remedy. Sometimes heartburn can actually be caused by too little acid in the stomach, leading to indigestion. Apple cider vinegar helps overly alkaline bodies restore the natural balance in the body and happens to be a wonderful remedy for relieving the heartburn.
